Military
rank is a badge of leadership. With each increase in rank,
you become more responsible for personnel, equipment, and
missions.
The
"E" in E-1 stands for "enlisted" while
the "1" indicates the pay grade for that position.
The other pay categories are "W" for warrent officer
and "O" for commissioned officers. Some enlisted
pay grades have two ranks. The Army, for example, has the
ranks of Corporal and Specialist at the pay grade of E-4.
A Corporal is expected to fill a leadership role and has a
higher rank than a Specialist even though both receive the
same amount of pay.
The
rank patches, shown below, are worn on both sleeves of the
dress uniforms (Class A, Dress Greens, and Dress Blues). Metal
pin-on rank insignia are provided for wear with the Battle
Dress Uniform (black for enlisted, black or brown for officers)
as well as with some dress uniforms (gold for enlisted, gold
or silver for officers).
Enlisted
soldiers, including Noncommissioned Officers (Corporal and
above) do not salute each other except at certain ceremonial
occasions. All officers (including Warrent Officers) are required
to return a salute when it is presented. All enlisted and
officers must salute any officer of a higher rank (for enlisted
ranks, that means any officer) when meeting them or reporting
to them.
Enlisted
Rank Insignia (Class A Uniform)
These are the ranks you can acquire during your tenure in
3RB. Higher ranks may be acquired if administrative roles
are taken on.
